A Three Year Publishing Project Reviving The Work Of A Great American Writer

DVRF is pleased to announce the Stephen Dixon Project, in collaboration with McSweeney’s and the author’s family.

Stephen Dixon (1936-2019) was an American author, regarded as one of the most original and quietly influential novelists and short story writers of the late 20th century. Despite this, many of his great works have been out of print for years.

In partnering with McSweeney’s, DVRF hopes that this publishing project will bring Stephen Dixon’s groundbreaking career to an even wider audience.

  • Goodbye to Goodbye — A new collection of selected stories spanning Dixon’s entire career, edited by Dixon biographer Matthew Petti (October 2026)

  • I. and End of I. — The critically acclaimed novel and its companion piece (October 2026)

  • Half Stories, Full Novel — A new collection of previously unpublished stories (October 2027)

  • Frog — The National Book Award nominated novel, considered by many to be his finest work (October 2027)

  • Out of Time — An unpublished novel (October 2028)

  • Interstate — Another mid-career masterpiece, also nominated for the National Book Award (October 2028)
